About the Queanbeyan Players
The Queanbeyan Players Inc. is an amateur, self-sustaining, non-profit organisation that was formed in 1974 and Incorporated in 1987.
We have about 120 members all ages and backgrounds, with varied theatrical experiences and levels of talent.
While some members strive to be part of the cast of every show, some are happier working behind the scenes performing such vital roles as Stage Management, Lighting and Sound. There is always plenty to do, even for members with no interest in 'treading the boards'.
Queanbeayn Players stage two musical shows each year, rehearsing on Monday and Thursday evenings in the Uniting Church Hall in Rutledge Street.
These productions are staged in the superb, purpose-built theatre.
In the past one-act play seasons have been staged in the small Uniting Church Hall: in early 2005, Stepping Out was a major success. The management committee tries to choose shows that will prove popular with the public (and therefore ensure ongoing financial viability). They also bear in mind the need for a varied program that will ensure all our members have a chance to exercise and improve their talents. Since forming in 1974, Queanbeyan Players have staged almost every well-known musical at least once, while becoming known in the region as specialists in the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoir.
Grease, Brigadoon, The Yeomen of the Guard, Kiss me, Kate, Princess Ida, The Sentimental Bloke, Salad Days, Annie Get Your Gun, The King & I, Iolanthe, Oklahoma, Godspell, The Gondoliers, The Music Man, The Mikado, Kismet, and Utopia Limited are just some of the shows that have delighted audiences from all around the region.
